Two years ago Markus and I moved to Switzerland. Switzerland is a beautiful country, but unfortunately we couldn't imagine living there for a long time. So after two years we quit our jobs and our flat. Before the flat and job search in Austria starts again, we decided to take a little time off and go on a travel. At that time we didn't have any specific plans.
I can still remember the "one" Friday evening when Markus and I went out together to the bars in St. Gallen. We had already had a few drinks and so we philosophized about life. I told Markus how wonderful it would be to finally travel to New Zealand again. He laughed and said: If not now, then when. He was right.
One trip turned into a world trip
The next day we spontaneously booked our first flights. One trip turned into a world trip. Actually, we love spontaneous trips, but tourism in New Zealand was booming and so we had to book flights and campers three months in advance. Since we didn't want to fly directly to New Zealand, but rather start the trip in stages, we looked for cheap flights that would end up taking us to the other side of the world. After six hours of flight research, we booked the first flights:
Vienna > Abu Dhabi > Maldives > Bangkok > Melbourne > Christchurch > Sydney > Singapore > Koh Samui
For all these direct flights we paid not even 2000 € per person. The long flight research has definitely paid off!
From today's perspective, our biggest highlights will be the three-week island hopping on the native islands of the Maldives and the road trip with our hippie camper in New Zealand. At the beginning of March we should land in Thailand, where we will also meet some of our friends and family again. From the arrival in Thailand we want to book everything spontaneously.
The adventure begins
Now we are on the plane to Abu Dhabi. A thousand thoughts are running through my head. The anticipation of everything is huge. However, I am also a little worried whether everything will go as we would wish. Since the Corona pandemic, traveling has not been as carefree as it once was. Just as we were waiting for our flight at the airport in Vienna, we heard from the news that certain countries are going to tighten the entry requirements again. We don't know what to expect, but we do know one thing: the trip will be unforgettable. There will be obstacles, there will be moments when we will be pushed to our limits. But that's okay, it's also a great adventure.
We don't know yet when we will return to Austria. In three months? Or maybe after half a year? We'll leave it up to us and travel as long as we enjoy it and our budget allows.
I am already infinitely grateful for this journey and also proud of us that we are starting this adventure together.
